Who
are we?Hillfoots Evangelical Church is an independent church, not part of any larger group of churches. However, we do have a strong interest in the welfare and progress of other Christian organisations. Our main purpose is the spreading of the message of Jesus Christ. The history of the church goes back to the mid-19th Century, when the church was started as a brethren assembly by a local mill owner. It has had a continuing Christian witness in the area since then. What do we believe? We believe in the supreme importance and truth of the Bible as the revealed Word of God. Based on this, we believe that:
We make an effort to have an influence in the local community through regular events. In autumn and winter we have Supper Evenings with guest speakers. These are popular with people not regularly connected with the church. We provide a weekly Drop-In facility for all age groups to share tea, coffee, food and conversation. Our activities include recreational and teaching groups for children and young people. We also make a point of keeping regular contact with other churches in the area. Our central activities are our two Sunday morning services. These are the Communion Service and the Family Service. The Communion Service is principally for committed believers to have a time of quiet worship as we share communion. The Family Service is aimed at providing fellowship, teaching and worship experience for families and people of all ages. Some of those attending may not yet have made a firm Christian commitment. All are made welcome at the Family Service. What is important to us? There are two features of church activity which we consider essential in living the Christian life:
How are we structured? At present we have a group of elders who are responsible for the correct functioning of the church. We also have two part-time paid staff. These are our pastor and our community worker. All members are expected to accept this leadership format. Where appropriate, important decisions are made after consultation with members. What about finance? Our finance is raised entirely through the freewill offerings and gifts of our members and visitors. Who can join? Anyone who has accepted Jesus as Saviour, and whose life demonstrates that. We also expect that believers would want to be baptised. After a period of familiarisation, anyone wishing to join is interviewed by the elders. We would also expect that anyone joining us would be willing to become actively involved in the life of the church. And finally ... If you are already part of another church fellowship we would like to send our greetings. We happily welcome holidaymakers and other visitors to our services. If you don't have a church connection we would encourage you to seriously consider becoming involved in a Christian fellowship where you feel that you belong and are comfortable. We would invite you, if you don't already belong to a church, to visit us and consider what you hear and see. If you would like to know more about us, please speak to the pastor, one of the elders, or any church member. Any of us will be happy to try to answer any questions you may have. Leadership
